Running a business is difficult for a multitude of reasons. You have to manage employees, stay within your budget, and potentially handle difficult clients.
But, before all that, you have to come up with the money to start your company!
There’s a reason why entrepreneurs are some of the most hardworking people on the planet. But, getting your business set up is only half the battle.
Then, you’re going to need to find clients.
It can sometimes be challenging to come up with lead generation ideas, but it doesn’t have to be.
Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered.
Let’s check out 7 ideas that will have clients flocking to you.
1. Blogging
Blogging is the king of lead generation.
It’s free, you can do it yourself (if that’s your thing), and you’re in complete control of the content.
When looking to bring people to your site, having high-quality content is one of the most efficient ways to do it. By blogging about relevant topics in your industry and providing your reader with useful information, you’ll drastically increase the chances they’ll explore other areas of your website.
For example, let’s say you own a tire store. You could create content that offers potential customers information on when to change a tire, how to change a tire, what tires are best for what vehicles, etc.
From here, you can provide them with offers, redirect them to other pages on your site, or get their contact info.
And, it all started with your blog post.
2. Exit-Intent Popups
Sometimes, people don’t spend very long on a page before they move their mouse to the back button. Even more frequently, however, is the fact that most people who leave a website will never return to it.
By creating a popup menu that appears when visitors go to leave your site, you’ll have another shot at getting their contact information through whatever offer is most appropriate (such as a course, newsletter, etc.).
Otherwise, all of that other work you did to bring people to your website goes to waste.
3. Give Away Free Stuff
Who doesn’t love something that’s free?
One of the best lead generation ideas is to offer free stuff to your potential customers. The only thing they have to provide is their contact information.
While your initial offer may come at no cost to them, you can use their contact information to offer them paid products or services in the future, drastically increasing your potential to make a sale.
As long as what you offer is useful (free eBooks or worksheets are great options), you’ll have no problem getting contact info left and right.
4. Keep Things Secure
Many people are very sceptical when it comes to giving out personal information on the Internet. This is especially true when they need to provide their address or financial info.
Even if they trust the website that asks for it, they may not trust the website’s susceptibility to hackers. Thus, someone who could have been a lead ends up moving on without providing you with anything.
One of the best ways to alleviate this concern is to install a security badge, also known as a trust seal, on your website. This is available through third-party services that collect your site’s info to see how secure it is.
If you meet their standards, you’ll be able to put a trust seal on your site, showing your customers that their information will remain secure.
5. Offer a Trial Version
If the service you offer comes at a price that most people in your audience won’t comfortably pay, it’s essential that you offer them a free trial so they can check it out first.
This will allow them to see exactly what it is they’re paying for, how to use it, and how it works for them. If your service is exceptional (and it should be), they’ll easily see that it’s worth the money and likely move onto making a purchase.
How long the free trial lasts and what its limitations are is up to you. You could offer full access for seven days, or limited access for an indefinite amount of time.
Whatever you do, as long as the full version is a more enticing option, people will pay for it.
6. Don’t Promise People You Won’t Spam Them
It can be tempting to preemptively advise people that you won’t spam them when they’re signing up for a free download, newsletter, etc.
Ironically, however, this actually decreases the likelihood that they will give you their contact information.
When people read the word “spam,” they’re reminded about what spam is and how annoying it can be to deal with. Then, they might second-guess their decision to give you their info out of fear of getting spammed (even though you promised not to).
Thus, it’s better to keep the signup form as clean as possible and only offer the necessary fields with no other text.
7. Give Fewer Choices
People can easily get overwhelmed when offered a large number of choices. If you have multiple free offers that you can provide your site’s visitors, choose one. It isn’t wise to offer an email newsletter, a free course, a free eBook, and a worksheet all on the same page.
Similarly, your call to action should have one decision for the client to make to limit their options to “yes” or “no.”
This also applies to the pages where they can download or sign up for something. That page should have one option for them to decide on.
Doing this will make sure that people don’t overthink the choice they are about to make or get overwhelmed by having too many options.
